10000m Women Final
| It was a very very tough race. After 6 km I have been so tired. Absolutely exhausted. But then somehow I found new power. I am so happy now. My dream was a medal and now it has become true. That is just great! |

10000m Women Final
| We are both very happy to achieve this success for russian athletics. It was a tough fight at the last 200 metres. Maybe marathon is my event for future. I am coming from Cheboksary which is a known place in connection with race walking. But I am a runner and now having a medal and that is a great feeling. |

10000m Women Final
| About two kilometres before the finish I started to believe I can win a medal. But it was a fight until the last metres, nothing was granted. You ask me whether I like more marathon or track running and I must tell you that for the moment of course track is nicer, I have the gold medal. I am very positively surprised (crying). I want to give a part of his medal to my coach Vladimir Timofeyev, my husband, my sister, my mother and grandmother. They are helping me because we have a 3,5 years old boy Yegor and he needs some care. I am coming from Novokuybishevsk which has maybe 150 inhabitants. In future I want to run also a fast marathon, but first I want to achieve some fast times on the track. We need to work and come closer to chinese times. Next marathon? Maybe next year. |

Shot Put Men Final
| It was a very dramatic competition. Very close. I am a little disappointed. After the morning qualification session I was expecting more. I wanted to fight for gold. That is sports. |

Shot Put Men Final
| Silver medal is nice, but I must admit I m not very satisfied. I wanted to win and I knew I could win. I think I had a 21.40 shape, but could not manage technically the way I wanted. This is good year for me, but the silver at world indoors is higher for me. This is maybe third best medal of my career after Paris and Moscow. I train in Minsk and my coach Sevtsov will be happy, it is his third medal from Gothenburg. In 1995 discus thrower Kaptyukh got one and also in 1999 at under 23 championships another discus thrower Malashevich the next one. I do not know what will be my next competition programme. For the moment the feelings are not bad, but I wanted more. |

200m Women Heptathlon Heat 4 (4)

| Itīs been a fantastic day for me today. Hurdles a litle bit down. But shot put was personal best and 200 metres another one. I am very pleased! Tomorrov I will definitely fight for a medal. |

| Because my hand injury I wanted 81 m, but it was 84 so I must be satisfied. Last three weeks I was not able to train so letīs see for the finals.

Javelin Men Qualification Group B
| I know this stadium,I have some experience here so it went very well. The area is really good, we had some tailwind, but that was not something significant. For win I think something between 89-91 will be needed. Although I learned from last year Helsinki experience, I feel pretty same. |

1500m Men Semifinal
| It is true that maybe I ran this race, especially the last 400 meters too fast and might have lost a little bit of energy too much. But I needed this victory and time for my confidence because I have not run for some time. So now I am very optimistic. I have not made up my mind about the tactique for the final, but I do not think it will be a question of time or pace. I definitely will not run the 800 meters here.

100m Men Round 2 Heat 3 (4)

| I was taking it easy, everything is fine. But this false start nearly killed me, I hate that, I do not like to be distracted. So my start was bad - but it is bad most of the times anyway. |

High Jump Men Qualification Group B

| It was a good qualification, relaxed and smooth. It is good to be back in shape. Crowds are fantastic and not only to us. I know this stadium very well, I competed here for the first time in 1994.

100m Men Round 2 Heat 2 (4)
| Now the starter does it much more the way I like it, i.e. the pauses are not too long. My race was smooth and relaxed, everything feelt ok. After 90 meters I looked around and saw that I was first, so I slowed down. Letīs see what happens tomorrow - we will all have fun together. |

Javelin Men Final
| I missed completely the first throw. So I got used to the track. I felt more relaxed and also wind was better in second round. The final will be very close, lots of long throws, hopefully better weather.

| Jan Zelezný (CZE) |
Javelin Men Qualification Group A
| It is special to be still around. I was not satisfied with my technique. Unfortunately I was forced to do the other two throws. You never know. I will see tomorrow what will my body tell me. I have enough speed, need to transfer it to my throws. I will try and risk in the finals.
NOTE Jan Zelezny competed also 1995 at the World Championships and was the winner. It is his 5th appearance at the European Championships. He will compete in his third finals. |

| Aleksandr Ivanov (RUS) |
Javelin Men Qualification Group A
| I felt too much pressure. I wanted to make it with the first and I did it, but it was not as smooth as I wanted. I had some groin injury problems this year so my goal is to throw some good result in the final. But the favourites are very good, it will be tough. |

100m Men Round 2 Heat 2 (4)
| This is my first senior championships, but there is no fear. The atmosphere is great and I do not feel the pressure at all. I think something around 10.20 will be enough for the finals and I hope to run such a time in the semifinals. I felt little bit my hamstring, but fortunately it is nothings serious. |

| Mayte Martínez (ESP) |

800m Women Round 1 Heat 1 (4)
| My tactique was as always: stay behind and then sprint on the last 100 metres. I would have preferred an even slower race today but I had to speed up a lot in order to make sure to qualify for the semi-finals. To qualify there for the final one will have to run under two minutes. I feel good although I have to admit that I feel pain in the knee and the back. |

High Jump Women Heptathlon
| I feel extremely good, I guess I have not been in such a good shape since 1997. There are only some tiny muscular problems. I am happy to lead after two events but I want to beat Karolina in every event thatīs what I have trained so hard for. The Swedish audience is very nice to me and cheering also when I jump - I appreciate that a lot. |

| Carolina Klüft (SWE) |
High Jump Women Heptathlon Group A
| So far I have a good day. If I would made 192 I would be very happy. I have some small problem with my hamstring and the worst event for that are the hurdles. So it is good I managed to do the hurdles well. It is a pressure, but the crowd is lovely and I want listen to them. |

| Betty Heidler (GER) |
Hammer Women Qualification Group B
| I am so happy to have qualified in the first throw with such a great result - over 70 metres. I do no longer think about the bad result at the European Cup in Malaga, also because the simulation of the qualification that we did in Leverkusen was a success and helped me a lot. Today everything worked fine for me: warming up, first throws etc. And our circle is quite blunt - that is how I like it. For the final I would like to have a first throw just like today to make sure I will be amongst the final eight. |
| Tatyana Lysenko (RUS) |
Hammer Women Qualification Group B
| It was just normal, nothing else. How much I have left for the finals? Do not ask, you will see.
NOTE The result of Tatyana Lysenko 73.23 is not only new championships record, but also second best the ever qualification mark, better was only Olga Kuzenkova,RUS with 73.71 at Olympic Games 2004 in Athens. |

400m Hurdles Women Round 1 Heat 4 (4)

400m Hurdles Women Round 1 Heat 1 (4)

| Very good run as I planned. I was able to save some energy. I think a 54 seconds time will be enough for a medal which is my aim. But first I must go through the semifinals. |
| Gulfiya Khanafeyeva (RUS) |
Hammer Women Qualification Group A
| There was too much pressure and expectations from all of us, that is why I think nobody achieved 70 metres. The circle was too hard for me. As of now I really do not know whether my result will be enough to qualify. |
| Kamila Skolimowska (POL) |
Hammer Women Qualification Group A
| I was too nervous and my technique was not ok. But it is true that all of us did not throw well. I do not know why, maybe the pressure, maybe the timing because we needed to wake up at six o clock. I hope I will make it to the finals and this competition will be in normal competition time so I expect far better results generally.
NOTE: Even when the standard was not achieved in A-group the result of Kamila Skolimowska 68,92 m is the best in qualification at European Championships ever. |

100m Men Round 1 Heat 6 (6)

| I feel very good and am in perfect health, so the gold medal is not far. Although I have to keep an eye on Chambers and Pognon who are very strong, too. The track is very fast, so this is ok. What is amazing is the audience. I have never run a heat with so many people watching it! |

100m Men Round 1 Heat 2 (6)

| I was very relaxed and did not force myself too much. I feel very good and the little hamstring problems I had are gone today. I do not like the way the starter starts: he takes way too long. The track on the other hand is great - it responds very well. I am going for gold, of course! |

Shot Put Men Qualification

| 20,58 metres in the first attempt are great - this gives me a lot of confidence. This is fantastic for my spirits. It is also a good omen because four years ago in Munich I won my bronze medal with exactly this result. |

100m Men Round 1 Heat 3 (6)

100m Men Round 1 Heat 1 (6)

| It is a pity I wanted run so much. I had the feeling that starter waited too long. Anyway, I still have the relay, but of course I m very disappointed.
Note:
At 2002 Championships in Munich the current false start rule was not yet in place, this dq is the first at European Championships as per the new rule. |
